Lomo to Me

Lomo to me, is a way of living that I have always wanted to pursue. The first time I saw a photograph taken by LCA, it felt as if I was brought back to the 80s. It mesmerized me, as I am a sentimental person. Thus, in the days that followed, I used the Lomo fundamentals on all kinds of simple cameras to record my life.

In the process of shooting, I discovered that the Lomo is not merely a casual trend amongst the young people. This is only a superficial perception. Though Lomo is not technically demanding, it is still a serious form of photography. It is not just about taking pictures randomly; it is also a challenge to turn these pictures into genuine photographic works. Of course this works are different from commercial photography shot by pricey single-lens reflex cameras.

However, these works reflect the spontaneous mood and sense of freedom from the photographer. Thus Lomo works are more real and give a true insight to daily life. There are many debates on the true Lomography fundamentals. In a society filled with angst, people embraced the free and easy, just shoot aspect of lomography. However, that is not all of Lomography. More importantly, Lomography offers everyone a fair opportunity to become a photographer. As a photographer, one must capture the highlights of life onto film and appreciate the surprise that each photograph bring us. Regardless of living environment and conditions, it is most important that one is able to unearth and see the beauty that is hidden deeply among mundane life. And this is precisely how Lomo can contribute to photography.
